God Leads His People
I must confess that one thing I hear from Christians really baffles me. So often, believers say to me that they do not hear from the Lord, and they do not know how to find His will. This baffles me, because it would thwart God's desire to have fellowship with us, if He did not speak to us. Also, I know that when He does speak to us, He speaks clearly because He is All-powerful and perfectly capable of all types of communication. As for His will for our day to day lives, why would He hide that from us? He has a will and a purpose for every believer, and it has to do with expanding His kingdom on this earth. Therefore, it would not make sense for Him to fail to make His will clear to us. I believe the story of the people of Israel leaving Egypt is a great example of this. (Exodus 13:21) Let's see what God did for them and what He still does for us today.
God took His people out of Egypt by the best way for them to miss having to fight other countries on the way to Canaan, so they would not get discouraged and want to return to Egypt. He leads us in the way that is best for us and our personality today, too. He made the way safe and clear by going before them. We need to know that there is never a place we go in God's will that He has not already been there to prepare the way for us. He led them clearly with a pillar of cloud going before them in the daylight and a pillar of fire going before at night. There was no way for them to miss His direction. Of course, they had to keep their eyes on Him and the pillar before them. However, if we keep our eyes on Him daily, we will have no problem seeing His path for us. Part of keeping our eyes on Him is staying in His Word and allowing His Spirit to show us what it means. Then, as we follow He gives us the wisdom and strength to get there, as He did for Israel. However, we can miss God's leadership, if we are set on doing things our own way, and we do not keep our eyes on Him, to hear all He says and to see all He does around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 14-16.
