Itching Ears

Are your ears itching? I hope not. That would be very uncomfortable, but it would also be dangerous, if it is what Paul described to Timothy. When something itches, we want to scratch it, so the itching will go away, and we will feel better. The problem is when we have itching ears because we don't like sound doctrine, so we want someone to tell us what we want to hear instead. (II Timothy 4:3,4) That is a very serious condition that can lead to all kinds of problems.

We live in the last days, and the time has come to which the apostle referred. We see a lot of people who do not want to listen to sound doctrine any more. They can't endure it. It makes them mad, and it makes them look for teachers who will scratch their doctrinal ears, by saying what is in line with their passions. They turn away from listening to the truth, because it calls for discipline and sacrifice, at times. They wander off to myths, hoping to be satisfied in their lives. However, myths are false. They only give false hope. False hope is no hope at all. They are left in the dark without the Lord and any true spiritual direction from the Word of God. I could name many specific instances of this, but let me just say this. Any doctrine or teaching that does not conform to the clear teaching of the whole Word of God is false teaching, and it is a myth. Please, do not listen to this world and be conformed to this world. Receive sound doctrine and be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Titus 1-3.
