The World or Our Soul
There are many people who are focused on having as much of this world's goods and experiences as they can possibly obtain. They work all of the time to try to save up a fortune. They go everywhere they can and participate in every kind of event they can fit into their schedule. All the while that they are investing in this world, they are neglecting their soul. Is it worth it? Of course, we know that it would not be good to gain the whole world and to forfeit our soul. (Mark 8:36,37) After all, what could we give in return for our soul to buy it back from losing it?
Our soul is who we are as a person. It is our inner being made up of our mind, will, and emotions. It encompasses our personality, and it is housed in our body. To go along with our soul we have a spirit, which is the part of us God designed to relate to Him. However, our soul is really who we are and who we will be for eternity. Jesus said that we can keep our soul to ourselves, but then, we will lose it. The only way to keep it is to give it to Him, or to lose it for Him. If we do not do that, there is not enough money in the whole world to redeem our soul. The only payment was the precious blood of Jesus on the cross. He only asks that we surrender our soul to Him in faith, and then, he applies that payment to our account. We are forever His, and He will make us secure in Him forever. That is why we must not be focused on this world, but on the Lord. We must give Him our soul, so our spirit can be made alive by the Holy Spirit coming into us, and we can live in harmony with God. That is far better than anything in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Mark 9-11.
