Jesus, The Ultimate Servant
When we think of Jesus, we think of Him being the Lord. Often, we think of His miracles and the sermons He preached. Of course, we think about His sacrificial death on a rugged cross for the sins of the world. Then, we might think about His glorious resurrection three days later. However, I would venture to say that most people do not think of Jesus as a servant. In reality, He is the Ultimate Servant, and His entire earthly life was about serving. (Mark 10:45) Yes, and His death was the greatest service He rendered, when He paid His blood for our sins.
Jesus left Heaven to do us all a service which we could have done no other way. He humbled Himself to come and to be born in a stable, so He could be the servant of all people, not just the rich. He never owned a home, but He fully submitted to the Father to serve Him while on earth by only doing His will, not His own will. He served His 12 disciples, and mentored them into apostles to be sent out with the message of salvation for all by grace through faith. Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. As believers, we are to be like Jesus. Therefore, we are to strive to be servants of all, as well. We can't save anyone, but we can love them and show them how to have life through Jesus. That is the greatest service we can do for anyone, so we ought to intentionally do that every day in an effort to be like the Ultimate Servant, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Mark 12-15.
