Like a Green Olive Tree
I have all kinds of trees on my property. Some are very old and brittle. They break in the wind. Others are green, growing, and strong. It is very hard to break them, and they are growing bigger quickly. David used the analogy that he was a "green olive tree" planted in the house of God. (Psalm 52:8) This is a vivid picture we all need to hear and apply in our lives.
How would you characterize your spiritual life and your relationship with God? Is it green, strong, and growing, or is it brittle, breaking, and stagnant? God wants us all to be green trees planted close to Him. That means we have close fellowship from Him, and we get our spiritual nourishment to grow from Him. Also, we need to be like a growing olive tree which produces much fruit for the Lord. We do that when we trust in His steadfast love forever and ever. We know we can count on the Lord, so we depend on Him for everything we need to bear good fruit for His kingdom. I pray this will be the picture of each one of our lives, so we will glorify God greatly by bearing much fruit. (John 15:8)
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 55-57.
