To Study and To Do

Ezra, the priest, led a group of people who had been in exile back to Jerusalem to help restore all of God's laws in the new temple. He was perfectly suited for this task, because he had set his heart to study God's Word and to do it. (Ezra 7:10) He also was set on teaching God's laws to the people of Israel. I wonder what we have set our hearts upon?

In America, we say, "He has his heart set on doing that." It means that we have a commitment to seeing it happen. That is what it takes when it comes to the study and the doing of God's Word. We must have our heart set on doing those two important things. It takes time, prayer, and intentionally changing our lives to accomplish what Ezra accomplished. The question is, "Are we willing to set our hearts to study and to do God's Word?" If we are willing so that we do it, we will receive many blessings from the Lord, and others will benefit from us showing them what we have learned. I pray that we will all take Ezra's example to heart.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezra 9-10 and Nehemiah 1.
