Rejoicing with Great Joy
When was the last time you rejoiced with great joy? I hope you can remember a specific time. It does our hearts good to rejoice, and when it is rejoicing with great joy, it is very beneficial. That is what happened in Jerusalem when they had the dedication of the wall which the returning exiles built in the days of Nehemiah. (Nehemiah 12:43) Can you imagine the excitement over the change in their city? What a blessing from the Lord! We need that kind of rejoicing today, not only on special occasions, but every Sunday.
Nehemiah assembled two great choirs to sing from the top of the wall. They were accompanied by musicians. There were great sacrifices offered, and the rejoicing was done by men, women, and children, until the joy was heard far away. All of that was over a wall being completed. Every Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our eternal salvation. Now, we have a home in heaven, and we have Him to walk with us every day for the rest of our earthly lives. We have the Holy Spirit, who teaches us, empowers us, and guides us in all we do. We have joy as the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.I would say we have even more to rejoice about with great joy than they did back then. What would you say? Well, let's do it. No matter what everyone else does, let's worship the Lord without inhibition, so that we rejoice before Him each Lord's day. Remember, the joy of the Lord is our strength, and we need as much strength as we can get.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 2-5.
