Keeping Our Word
God has strick rules in Numbers 30 about keeping any vows we make. (Numbers 30:2) He knew the importance of saying what we mean and meaning what we say. If others can't count on us to do what we say, then we do not really have the integrity that we ought to have. Also, consider how it would change our whole society if everyone could be counted upon to keep their vows to the Lord and others.
Words are very important. God intends for us to make our words have substance like His do. When God speaks and when He promises something, we can always depend on Him to full what He has said. Since we are followers of Christ, we should be like the Lord in this way, too. After all Jesus is the truth. If we don't fulfill our vows, we are lying to others, since we have either deceived them, or we have failed to do the right thing. I hope we will all take this warning very seriously, since we will give an account God for every idle word we speak.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 31-33.
