God's Prayer for His People

After Moses finished admonishing the people to keep God's laws and statutes, the people were quick to agree to keep all of them. This pleased the heart of God so much that He said a prayer for His people. (Deuteronomy 5:29) It is always God's desire to bless His people, not to punish them. However, since He is holy, He has to punish all sin of all people. Also, since He is love, He desires for us to love Him back, so He had to create us with the ability to choose to love Him back. This choice makes it possible for us to choose the wrong things, instead of loving Him fully. Therefore, God prays for those who know Him to be faithful to love Him and obey Him, so He can bless us well.

When God knows our needs, He prays for us to have a heart of obedience. He knows the heart is the key. If we have a heart of love for Him that is set on Him, we will obey Him. Also, He knows that we need a healthy fear of Him to remain committed to keeping all His commandments, so He prays for us to have that, too. Finally, He expresses His desire for things to go well for our children and all of our descendants. I know Jesus is praying for all of His own every day. That is His promise to us. Let's ask ourselves if we have a pure heart of love and a good fear of God, so we can glorify Him everywhere we go.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 6-8.
