Proof of God's Hand at Work
Sometimes people want proof that God really is alive, or that He did a particular thing. We should not always ask for proof, but if we sincerely seek it, God often provides it. Thomas is a good example. After the resurrection of Jesus, he told the other disciples that he would not believe Jesus had risen unless he could put his fingers in the nail holes in his hands and his fist in the spear wound in his side. Jesus showed up, and gave him the opportunity to do just that. Thomas confessed his faith in Jesus as Lord because of that proof. The Philistine priests and diviners wanted the same type of proof of God's hand at work, when they sent the ark of the covenant back to Israel, so they set up a clever test using two milk cows and their calves. (I Samuel 6:7,9) God gave them proof, too.
Under normal conditions a milk cow would not leave her calf, but she would go home to search for it. However, in the test set up by the Philistine priests and diviners, the two cows went straight in the opposite direction and right to the Israelites. God proved that the plagues had been his hand at work. Do you truly believe in God, or are you a doubter? If you are sincere in your desire to know God and to trust Jesus as Lord, He can and will show you what you need to see like He did for Thomas. However, it must be done in humility and true searching for God. He loves to reveal Himself to us in relevant ways and even to give us proof that we need to trust Him. However, when He gives us a sign or proof, we still have to act in faith to trust Him once and for all to forgive our sins and to be the Lord of our life every day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 7-9.
