Coming in the Name of the Lord
Most of us are familiar with the account of David's victory over Goliath, the huge Philistine warrior who defied the army of Israel. However, do we look at the details? The key is to know how David defeated Goliath. No, it was not simply with a sling and a stone. He defeated the giant because he came against him in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel. (I Samuel 17:45) If he had not done that, the sling and the stone would have been worthless in such a fight.
David knew the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior. Not only had he entrusted his life to God, he had trusted the Lord to give him strength to kill a lion and a bear. That is how David knew the power and authority of the Lord. We must all remember that the name of any person carries with it the authority and power of that person. If they are a personal friend then, we can ask them to lend us their influence to help us in life. That is what we do when we know the Lord Jesus Christ today. We only operate in life according to His name. We do not do what we want to do, or what we have the power to do. We obey Him, doing what He would do, and we depend on Him to give us His power and authority to do it. Then, we can defeat any giants in our lives in His power, not our own.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 18-20.
