Let Them Deliver You
The sons of Israel kept forsaking God and serving other gods. However, when they really began to suffer, they would cry out to God, and He would graciously send a Judge to deliver them. The problem was that they were taking advantage of the mercy and grace of God. It finally came to an end. God told them to cry out to the gods they had chosen to deliver them. (Judges 10:13,14) Of course, that was futile. Sadly, we do the same thing sometimes today.
Often, people want to do whatever seems right to them, and it ends up getting them in trouble. When the troubles come, they begin to pray that God would help them out of those troubles. He does that sometimes, like He did for Israel. However, it is an insult to God for us to follow idols, then to turn to Him to deliver us, only to return to the idols after the problems are gone. It is like using God as a spare tire. We take Him out of the trunk for just long enough to get the tire fixed. Then, we put God back into the trunk. God can't bless us when we live like that. We will quickly find ourselves having to cry out to the false gods we have been following, but it will do no good.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 12-15.
