The Principle of First Fruits
From the time the sons of Israel went into the Promised land of Canaan God began teaching them all of the principles and laws that would bring them His blessings in the land. One of the main truths that Moses gave them was the principle of first fruits. He commanded them to take the first of their harvest to the Lord. They were to declare before Him that they realized it had come from Him, and then, they were to worship Him. (Deuteronomy 26:10) This truth is essential for all believers. Let me explain.
God deserves the thanks and the glory for all we have and all we are. Therefore, we are to continually bring to Him our worship with the first of all He gives us. We should give Him the first of every day that He gives us life, and we should thank Him and worship Him then. We should give our tithes and offerings from the first, not waiting to see what is left over after we spend it for ourselves. We should give Him the first of our talents, energy, and creativity. It all comes from Him. If we give God our left overs, we are dishonoring Him, and we are saying He is not worthy of our heart-felt thanks and worship. Therefore, we must practice the principle of first fruits in all we have and do.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 28-31.
