The Passing Pleasures of Sin
Sin is fun, and it brings us pleasure. However, the pleasure is "passing" or temporary. What comes next is not fun at all. Sin brings destruction to people, families, and countries. Sin separates us from God, so that ultimately, we are miserable. That is why some people, like Moses, choose to suffer affliction with the people of God, rather than the passing pleasures of sin. (Hebrews 11:24,25) Those afflictions are forgotten one second after we set foot in Heaven with the Lord.
If sin did not bring pleasure, people would not be tempted to engage in the wrong practices. Satan is good at lying about the results of sins, and He is a great tempter. However, God has told us that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Those who choose Jesus will suffer affliction in this world, but we can never lose the gift of eternal life with Christ. It is far better to accept the afflictions, and to shun the sins. Eternity and the joy of Heaven lasts forever, while the pleasures of sin are passing, and one day they will be gone completely. I pray that we all will choose to be a part of the people of God by trusting Christ as Lord and Savior.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Hebrews 12-13 and James 1.
