It Is Finished
When Jesus died, He completed the payment of His blood and His life for all of the sins of the world. (John 19:30) The work He had come to do was finished, so now we can have salvation from our sins and eternal life. It is good for us to spend a few minutes considering the sacrifice of Jesus and what He accomplished for us.
On the Cross of Calvary Jesus poured out His blood as the payment for our sin debt. The precious blood of the God/Man Jesus Christ was the only payment worthy to settle that debt for all the sins of the world. He gave His life to die in our place, since the wages of sin is death. Someone had to die for our sins, and Jesus laid down His life for us. Also, He took all of the wrath of God, the Father, against sin. He took all of the punishment that we all deserved, so that God would be just in forgiving the sins of all of the people in the world. He finished everything necessary for salvation, and because of His sacrificial work for us, we can be saved from our sins as a free gift of grace. He did all of the work, and we receive the benefits. However, we only receive it by believing in Him as Lord and surrendering to Him as Lord of our life. We admit that we have sinned and caused Him to die, so we turn away from our sins. We believe that His death was the only thing that could pay for sin. Then, we throw ourselves on the grace of God, as we trust Him as Lord. God is so good to save all who come to Him in this way based on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 21 and Acts 1-2.
