God Hates Injustice
The northern kingdom of Israel became a very prosperous country before they were destroyed by the Assyrians and taken into exile. The wealth led to greed, and the greed led people to pervert justice. In fact, the prophet Amos proclaimed that God was punishing them because of this injustice. (Amos 2:6) We need to hear God's condemnation, because it could be similar to what we see happening today.
The judges of Israel took bribes. They would be so unjust as to declare a righteous person guilty, if they were bribed with silver. However, they would even sell the poor for a pair of sandals. They would condemn a poor person for a very cheap pair of homemade sandals made out of wood and a strap. In other words, all they cared about was money, and for even just a little money, they would use their influence to pervert justice.
Today, the wealthy get off with no sentence or a light sentence, because they are able to use their money to hire many lawyers and find loopholes in the laws or the prosecution. Either way, justice is not served, and it comes down to money. God's justice is totally blind to the race and the socio-economic situation of the person accused. God looks at the facts, and He makes the perfect judgment. We are to strive to do the same thing in all of our cases in court and in our own lives. God created all people equal, and justice should be fair for all people. When it is not, God is not pleased, so that He brings punishment on that society.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Amos 4-6.
