A Famine of Hearing the Word of God

God's people rebelled against Him by forsaking His Word and following idols. He sent all kinds of plagues on them to get them to realize their sins and turn to him. Finally, He sent the worst plague of all. It was a famine of hearing His Word. (Amos 8:11,12) Amos foretold the coming of this famine, and he declared that it would cover the entire land of Israel. Are we beginning to see such a famine today in America?

There are so many churches that do not preach and teach God's Word today. A fellow pastor told me just the other day of a funeral he preached with the associate pastor from another church, who did not read any Scripture or even say Jesus in his remarks. Then, others say they are preaching God's Word, but they are compromising. They begin to change the Word and give a wrong interpretation, instead of the plain meaning. This is causing it to be hard to hear the pure Word of God today. Yes, there are still faithful churches and preachers, but how long will it be until God sends such a famine on us, if we do not pray and turn back to Him?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Obadiah and Jonah 1-2.
