Children are a Heritage from the Lord
It is impossible to overstate the importance of children. If it were not for children, none of us would be here, and our world would come to an end. However, God in His wisdom designed life to begin as a baby and progress to adulthood, so that as children we could be loved and taught by our parents, so we are prepared for being adults. The psalmist was exactly right when he said that children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward from Him. Then, when we cherish this reward, we shoot them out into the world like arrows to confidently face everything in the power of the Lord. (Psalm 127:3-5) Let's consider this great blessing.
Our children are how we are able to pass on the truth and our values to the world. That makes them a heritage. They are like writing our history and then handing off the pen to them to write the rest of the story. They bring us so much joy and fulfillment, as we labor to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord that they are a great reward straight from God. My quiver may be smaller than yours, but we are truly happy when our quiver is full. It is such a blessing to see them grow into mature Christian adults, so that they can have trust in the Lord to even confront their enemies. All of this comes, because we see our children as the gifts from God that they are. We see them as our responsibility to teach them lovingly and shoot them out. Finally, we walk beside them to see what God will accomplish though them in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 130-132.
