God is Not the Man Upstairs
I am sure all of us have heard people refer to God as "the man upstairs." Not only is that an insult to Almighty God, it is not true, either. God is not a man. (Numbers 23:19) Therefore, if we think of Him as a man, it distorts our view of who He is and how He acts.
People engage in this type of thinking all of the time. They judge another person based on what they would do or on what other people have done to them. This is unfair to the person they are judging, because it discounts that person's character. Unfortunately, people who do not know the Lord, do that to Him. They think that God would lie, because they lie. They think that God sins, because everyone they know sins and needs to repent of sins. They think that God will not keep His word, because it is common for people not to do what they say they will do. By thinking this way, they drastically misunderstand God and His character.
God never lies, and He never has to repent of sin, because He is Perfect and Holy. God always does what He says He will do, because He is truth, and He has the power to do whatever He says He will do. Therefore, we need to change our thinking about God, if we think that He has any of the sinful weaknesses of people. We need to trust Him and accept what He says as truth.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 26-29.
