Anointed and Consecrated

God chose Aaron and his descendants to serve as priests in the service of the Lord in the Old Covenant. They were anointed and consecrated to prepare them for their service. (Exodus 30:30) This is a very important fact, because it is the only way a priest can stand before the Lord and minister to the people effectively.

The priests were anointed, because the oil represented the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit of God coming upon them to guide them and empower them, they could do nothing. They were powerless to do anything of God's commands in their own power. It had to be in the power of the Spirit.

The priests were consecrated, which means they were set apart to serve the Lord. They were not to be entangled in the affairs of this world, but they were to focus on the Lord and His service. If a priest was double-minded, he was of no use to the Lord.

The key is that all believers are priests in the New Covenant. (I Peter 2:9) The only way we can effectively walk with the Lord and serve the Lord is to be anointed by the Spirit and consecrated to His service. How about you? Are you taking time each day to be cleansed of your sins by confession and filled with the Spirit by submitting fully to Him? Are you fully set apart to God's service so that doing His will and His service comes before anything else in your life? Please, remember, without these two things your life will not be pleasing to God and used fully in His service, both of which are God's desire for all Christians.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 31-33.
