Holy Conduct and Godliness
It seems to me that there are a lot of people who think that there is no reason to live a holy and godly life. They believe it is dull, and that those who live that way will miss out on the best things in life. I disagree. However, the most important thing is that the Bible and the Lord disagree. (II Peter 3: 11,12) Remember, God has an eternal perspective for life, and we should, too.
Peter made it plain that everything in this world will be burned up. It will be dissolved. Then, there will be a new heavens and a new earth, both of which are not tainted by sin. That means that everything we have in this world will be gone forever, and only what we lay up in heaven will last past our death and the destruction of the world. If we have spent all of our time and energy on money, materials things, and pleasure, we will have wasted our lives. (I Corinthians 3:10-15) If we are a believer, we will go to heaven, but we will not have any rewards or treasures laid up there. (Matthew 6:19,20)
When we live lives of holy conduct and godliness, we will invest in the lives of people and in laying up things for heaven. Therefore, all that we do in holy conduct and godliness has benefits for this life and eternity. God promises to bless those who know His Word and do it. Also, I think there is a strong possibility that how we live here prepares us for what God has for us to do for eternity. That is my personal belief, but I know we will reign with Christ. All of this is why we should determine to live a life of holy conduct and godliness, instead of wasting our time on things that will be dissolved and lost forever.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I John 1-2.
