Defeating the Devil
Many believers do not know how to defeat the devil. They end up thinking it is not possible for them to win when he attacks them. Nothing could be further from the truth. God has given us all of the power we need to defeat the devil. (James 4:7,8) It is up to us to do what it takes to receive God's power and use it.
Here is what God says to do:
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 1-4.
Here is what God says to do:
- Submit to God. Until we fully submit to God, we are trying to live in our own power. We do not have the power to defeat Satan. God is All-wise and All-powerful. The devil is no match for Him. When we submit to God, the power of His Spirit fills us, so we can use it in our lives. We must submit to God daily. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
- Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The devil has to listen to God's power and authority. Therefore, we can resist him and see him flee from us, when we are filled with God's power. However, we have to desire to get rid of him and not to listen to him.
- Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. We must continue to keep our focus on the Lord. We must not become proud, because we saw the devil flee. We must always be drawing closer and closer to God on a daily basis.
- Cleanse your hands, you sinners. When we sin, we must confess our sins. (I John 1:9) God will not fill a dirty vessel. If we will confess our sins, He cleanses us, so we can be filled.
- Purify your hearts, you double-minded. Any time we find that we are having trouble choosing between doing God's will and being submitted to Him, or doing what the devil, the world, or the flesh wants us to do, we must stop and decide to only follow the Lord. We must decide to have a single mind, set on the Lord, not a double mind that tries to do both God's will, and the will of the world, the flesh, or the devil. God can't bless us when we are double-minded, because that shows a lack of faith in Him.
