Broken Over Our Sins
God is the only hope for America. We need His intervention into our affairs, so that we can get back to the truth and the morality that created this country. Without His help, men will be unable to fix the crisis we are in. Therefore, we need to follow God's admonition from the prophet Joel. We need to turn to the Lord with a heart that is broken over our sins and the sins of our country.(Joel 2:12,13) That is the only way He will hear us and respond to our pleas.
When we are broken over our sins, we will turn to the Lord with all of our heart. There will be no half-hearted repentance. We will completely turn from our sins and to the Lord, once and for all. We will seek Him with fasting and weeping and mourning over our sins and the sins of our nation. We will not simply do outward signs of anguish like tearing our clothes, but we will tear our hearts for Him to see our pain over sins. That is true turning to God.
We can be assured of His response, if we will turn to Him like this, because He is gracious and merciful. Remember how He spared Nineveh in the days of Jonah. He is slow to anger and of great kindness. He was given us every chance so far without losing His temper, and He will kindly give us another chance if we turn to Him in brokenness. That is just who God is. He relents from harm, when He sees hearts fully turned to Him. Let's commit now to be broken over our sins and to turn fully to God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Amos 1-4.
