Agreeing With God

The Israelites had a very special relationship with God in the Old Covenant. They were the only people of the earth that had a relationship with God, so that they knew Him, and He knew them.(Amos 3:2,3) That relationship brought more responsibility.

God revealed Himself to Israel and had a relationship so they could know Him. His desire was for them to know Him, His Word, and His ways, so they would follow Him and have close fellowship. The opposite happened. The Israelites decided not to agree with God, so they went their own way, even after all He had done for them. They did not walk with God; they could not walk with God because they were not agreeing with Him. That is why He had to punish them so severely. They had been given every advantage to know the Lord and obey Him, but they walked away from Him.

Today, believers are the people of God, and we must be on guard that we do not do the same thing. We have a relationship with God through trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior who died for us and rose again.  We know Him, but do we agree with Him, His Word, and His ways? If not, we will not be able to walk with God, and He will have to punish us to get us to realize what we are doing. Then, we can decide to agree with the Lord of all, and walk with Him closely each day. That is the key to real life, eternal life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Amos 5-7.
