Sound Doctrine
We live in a dangerous time in history. Paul told Timothy about it almost 2,000 years ago.(II Timothy 4:3,4) God knows our fallen human nature, so the Spirit could inspire Paul, so he could tell us just what would happen in the last days. We need to hear this prophecy that has definitely come true.
We have come to the day when people "will not endure sound doctrine." What a word picture! Not only do people not like sound doctrine, they can't stand it. They run from it when they hear it. The reason is because they want doctrine according to their own desires. They want someone to teach them what they want to hear. They have "itching ears." Just like my cat wants me to rub her ears some each day, because of how good it feels, they want teaching that makes them feel good. They do not want to hear about sin or guilt. They just want happy stories that require no commitment or sacrifice. They turn their ears away from truth and make up feel good fables.
Mark this down. None of us will like sound doctrine, if we just want to get our way and feel good. That attitude will lead us away to find something we like even if it is not true. If we do this, we may be able to ignore the truth for a while, and the ear massages will placate us temporarily. However, one day we will stand face to face with the Truth, Jesus Christ.(John 14:6) What will we do then?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Titus 1-3.
