God's Grace Teaches Us
When God shows us that He wants to save us by His grace, He also shows us how He wants us to live.(Titus 2:11,12) He shows us salvation because He loves us, and He wants us to have an eternal relationships with Him. Therefore, it only makes sense that He would show us how to live in His will, too. After all, don't we want those closest to us to live in a way of which we approve? God is the same way.
Once God saves us and adopts us into His family, we are to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. We say no to the things that God has shown us to be wrong. Then, we say yes to the things He says are right, like living soberly, righteously and in a godly way. That is not too hard to understand, but people have a real problem with it. Part of the problem is we forget God's grace. We owe all to Him, because He saved us freely by His grace. Without Him, we are lost, and we have no hope. Therefore, we should obey Him and love Him all of the time, so that we do what He desires.
God is going to take us to heaven to live with Him for eternity. Why would we think we can live any way we want here before we go to His perfect place? This life is preparation for heaven, so we start living godly lives here. Salvation and righteous living go together, so God's children desire to live a life that pleases the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Philemon and Hebrews 1-2.
