The Light of Life
Jesus is the Light of the World. Therefore, those of us who follow Him will not walk in darkness, because we have the light of life.(John 8:12) Jesus shines His light into the darkness of our world, so that we see how to live. That is the light of life.
Darkness is symbolic of evil. Also, when we are in the dark, we can't see where to go. Sunday, I ran into a a chair, because I thought I could walk safely through a dark room, but I was wrong. When we live in darkness, we do evil, sinful things, and we are constantly running into problems, since we can't see reality around us. That is life without Jesus.
Light is symbolic of good. When we are in a light place, we see clearly where we need to go and what we need to do. Therefore, we do the right things, and we avoid the troubles of life.
It is possible to walk through a dark place, but we need a light. Jesus is the best light, the Light of the world. When we follow Him, we see clearly from His light, so that we know the right thing to do, and the right places to go. The problem for believers is that we have the choice to close our spiritual eyes in rebellion or turn our heads to go our own way. Then, we end up doing the wrong thing and/or going the wrong way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 11-13.
