Proud or Just

The Prophet Habakkuk gave us a unique insight from the Lord. Basically, people are either proud or just.(Habakkuk 2:4) The word just is the same as righteous. A proud person will not be righteous, because he thinks too much of himself. He does not see his sins, so he does not turn from them. His soul is not upright in him, because he is trying to live by his own intelligence and power. That never leads to repentance and believing in God. All that happens is that he believes in himself.

The just, on the other hand, lives by his faith. He realizes his sins, because he is not proud. He is honest with himself and with God, so that he repents of his sins, and puts his faith in God, since he can't live on his own intellect and power. He turns it over to the Lord and trusts Him in everything. That is what saves his soul and makes him righteous.

We have to decide if we will be proud and think that we know more than God, or if we are going to be a person who lives by faith in Jesus Christ, who loved us so much He died for our sins. Putting our faith in Christ, after turning from our sins, is the only way to be righteous before God. The proud may feel they are righteous, but they are not, and they will never be. I pray we will all turn from pride and be people who live by faith.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Habakkuk 3 and Zephaniah 1-2.
