One Thing is Needed
When Jesus narrows in on one thing that is needed, we must hear what He said.(Luke 10:41,42) What is the most important thing in your life? Well, let's see if it lines up with His "one thing."
Jesus visited two sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha got upset with Mary, because as she scurried around serving her guests, Mary sat at Jesus' feet and listened to His word. Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her, but Jesus surprised her. He told Martha that Mary was doing the one thing that is needed. I am sure it stunned Martha. It may stun you to think about this, but it is true.
More than anything else in the Christian life, we need to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen for what He has to say to us, and we need to do this every day. Yes, we need to serve the Lord, too. However, if we have not taken time to be with the Lord, we have no power and direction to serve in the right way. Therefore, if we have to choose between fellowship with the Lord and service, we should always choose the time of close fellowship.
Jesus is much more interested in who we are than what we do. He is so pleased when we are people who are growing to be like Him, and that takes time with Him, hearing His Word. Then, once we are walking with Him, We can begin to serve in His power and for His glory.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 12-14.
