As a Little Child
Children can teach us a lot. They are very trusting, and life is not so complicated for them. Often, we miss the importance of children like Jesus' disciples did. We need to hear the rebuke that Jesus gave them.(Luke 18:16,17) We must remember how precious children are to the Lord.
Jesus told his disciples to stop forbidding the children from coming to Him. They thought Jesus was too busy and important to deal with children. They were totally wrong. Jesus taught them a great lesson in this experience. He said that the kingdom of God was for people who were like little children, not for erudite scholars, who have to know all of the details of the faith. In fact, if a person does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he or she can't get into it. What an amazing statement!
What does it take to be saved? It takes simple child-like trust in Jesus. How much do we need to understand? We need to understand like a child understands the good news of Jesus. Does this mean that we don't need to grow in faith and learn the meat of God's Word? Of course not! Every child has to go to school to learn and grow. We have to grow in Christ, but we have to enter the kingdom as a little child.
Let's be determined to help the children come to Jesus, and let's learn from them, so that we do not miss the kingdom of God by making it too complicated and intellectual.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 22-24 and John 1.
