Knowing God
Anyone can know the Lord, but very few really come to know Him in a personal relationship. God begins a relationship with those who receive His revelation of Himself as Lord of all, who exercises lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness by putting their trust in Him once and for all. Few people are willing to do that, but those who do are a delight to the Lord.(Jeremiah 9:24) It is right for those of us who know Him to glory in this fact. That does not mean that we boast. It means that we realize the importance of knowing God, so that we react with hearts of praise and thanks.
It is beyond wonderful that the infinite God would reveal Himself to finite people. It is even more glorious that He would want to have us know Him in a personal relationship. This is a result of His boundless love, which is at the core of His nature with His holiness. He is Lord, and because of His love and holiness He must exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness. He is always faithful. He always brings consequences to us for our actions, and He always does the right things to punish sin and reward virtue. When we know that, we know something that most of the people of the world do not know. It is with humble praise that we thank Him for blessings us with such insights into His character and ways. That is why we glory in it, and He delights in us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 10-12.
