Finding Rest in the Old Paths
Most people want to participate in every new thing that comes out. They think that the newest is the best. However, this is not always true. In fact, there are many things that were better the old way, even if the new way is faster or more convenient. This is especially true for our spiritual walk with the Lord.(Jeremiah 6:16) God told Jeremiah to remind the people of his day and us, that the old paths lead to rest for our souls. People need that kind of rest, but often, they reject going back to doing things according to the old paths, like Judah rejected God's appeal. Let's not be so stubborn.
Think about it; simple is better. We complicate our lives with having to try every new thing and with having to be part of every new fad. What is really important? Our relationship with God is the ultimate priority for having rest for our souls. Secondly, our relationships with others either cause us stress or rest. God's way is the way to have peace with God and others that brings rest. The path may be 2,000 years old or more, but it doesn't matter if it is old. What matters is the outcome. The proof is in the pudding. Are you living a life of rest and peace? If not, please do not think it is because you have to find something new. Just return to the old paths and find rest for your soul.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 7-9.
