Unity Among Believers
God loves unity. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit have perfect unity. The Lord wants believers to have unity and live in unity.(Psalm 133:1) The unity comes from knowing the Lord, having the same Father, the same Lord, Jesus Christ, and the same Holy Spirit, along with the same Word of God to follow. It is not something that has to be worked up. It happens automatically, if we are in God's will.
Unity is not uniformity. It does not mean we are all exactly the same. It does not mean we have the same personality, gifts, and assignments from the Lord. We may even differ in some of our beliefs on the non-essentials of the faith. However, it does mean we have the same mind toward the Lord and each other. We love each other, so that we want what is best for each other. We want to work together to do God's will and extend His kingdom.
If we see a lack of unity among believers, we should do whatever we can to restore that unity, or else things will not be pleasant, and God's will cannot be accomplished as He desires. I pray that we will strive for that good and pleasant unity the psalmist speaks of here and that we read so much about in the New Testament. Then, we can see God's will done on earth, as it is in heaven, in a greater way than ever.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 136-138.
