God's Revelation of Himself to Us
Job had an understanding of Jesus.(Job 19:25,26) That is amazing and wonderful! How do we know that to be the case? Let me briefly explain a few things. The Bible is God's Word to us, so that we can know specific things about Him and about life. We can have confidence in the Bible because many scholars have picked it apart for centuries, but no one has been able to disprove the Bible, and in fact, there is more evidence that the Bible is true than there is for any other ancient book or other writings, because there are so many hand written copies to analyze. All of the evidence of archaeology, the textual integrity, and the prophecies of the Bible show us that God truly inspired men to write it down for us, and what they wrote was His Words. Now, we have it in very much the same form that it was written down for us. Therefore, we can believe and trust the Bible.
Take this quote from Job. The book of Job could be even older than the book of Genesis. Some people think it was written before the time of Abraham, which is what I believe. Therefore, Job had no Bible to read. God showed him things, and they we recorded for us to read today, because God inspired Job or someone else to write down His version of what actually happened to Job. Job knew from God's revelation to Him that he had a Redeemer. Isn't that amazing? He knew that his Redeemer would stand on the earth. He also knew that when he died that he would see God. He did not know the name Jesus, but he had a correct understanding of God being the one who saves us from our sins, that God would come to earth in a bodily form, and that he would go to be with the Lord in Heaven after he died.
As we read the book of Job, we see that Job did not understand everything about life and death. He was very confused about what was happening to him, as any of us would have been. However, he stood firm in his faith, because God had revealed Himself to him, and he had put his faith in God. The same thing has to happen today for us to be saved, only now we have the Bible with all of the specifics spelled out for us. God is so good!
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 22-24.
