Caring for the Oppressed
It is part of the fallen human nature to bully other people and take advantage of others whenever possible for personal gain or satisfaction. God hates that way of thinking and acting. He wants us to hate it, too, and to have His heart for those who are oppressed around us.(Psalm 10:17,18)
Anyone who reads the Bible will see there is a theme that runs through all of the books from Genesis to Revelation: God loves everyone in the world. However, He especially notices the plight of those who can't help themselves, and He gives them more grace and strength to handle their problems. He comes to their aid in other special ways, too. He has a compassionate heart for the fatherless and widows, the poor and oppressed. It is also clear that God calls us all to have this same compassion. He calls on governments to care for their citizens and for churches, as well as, individuals to reach out to family and friends in need. We are called to show His love in tangible ways, not just in words.
This is a major concern of younger believers today, because they see the injustices, and they know the heart of God. I believe Christians of all ages should be willing to rally to the aid of the oppressed, as a way to show people the love of Jesus. Jesus died for everyone, not just the righteous. He hung out with sinners, not just the religious. He stood up against injustice of all kinds. We should strive to be like Jesus and live by His principles in every area of our lives.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 12-14.
