Defying God

This morning we read two instances of people defying God. One ended badly, and the other ended in victory. Let's make sure to learn an important lesson, so we can live in victory, not defeat. Saul listened to the people who were defying God's command, and the kingdom was taken from him. David did not listen to Goliath, the Philistine who was defying God. He listened to God and obeyed Him, so he won a great victory.(I Samuel 17:45)

Saul failed to be obedient to the Lord, because he went along with the people. He was the king. He should have told them what to do. Instead, he let them take the good spoil from their victory. They acted selfishly. They followed the fleshly desires and defied God. That is what we do every time we go with other people and disobey God. We are defying Him. We must not listen to others who would lead us from God. We must do what we do, because we know it is His will, and we do it in His name.

That is exactly what David did. The army of Israel was scared. The king was scared. Goliath was defying them and God. David did not listen to the crowd. He listened to God. He did not defy God. He stood up for Him by going against Goliath in God's name and power. Therefore, he won the victory. The same will be true for us today, if we simply listen and obey. We must not defy God. Any time we say "no" to God and do things our way, we are defying Him, and He can't bless us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 18-20.
