Do Not Pervert Justice
People have a problem doing the right thing every time, just because it is the right thing to do. There are several factors that cause this problem. The Lord commands us to stop perverting justice by eliminating showing partiality and taking bribes.(Deuteronomy 16:19) Wouldn't our country, our community, and our churches be so much better, if we would obey this command?
Most of us realize that we need to be fair to others, and we want to be treated fairly ourselves. The question is, "What is fair, or what is justice in each case?" The Lord's truth is absolutely true for every person in every situation. Therefore, justice is applying His truth correctly each time. It should be simple to read His Word and to do it, but sometimes partiality and brides enter into our judgment and cause us to pervert justice.
God does not look at the outside of a person. God looks at the heart of every person. and He sees exactly what he has done or has not done. We can't see the heart, as God does, so we have to look at the actions and based on the evidence, make a decision. As we do this, we must not change our decision based on the person. That is showing partiality. We must base justice solely on the facts of what has happened.
Also, we must realize that if we are receiving money in a particular situation, it will blind our eyes and twist our words, if we are not very careful. The Lord cautions us on this, because this is even true for the wise and the righteous. Therefore, we must stay away from brides and from rendering judgments when it involves money we receive.
See what God is saying? Our world and our churches are suffering from justice that is perverted by partiality and bribes. We must strive to follow God's truth with no deviation for any reason.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 18-21.
