God's Wrath Against Sin
God hates sin. He never compromises with sin. He never tempts people to sin. He never fails to punish us for sin, even though His mercy leads Him to punish us less than we deserve. It was God who passed through the land of Egypt to show His wrath against their sins and false gods, so they would see He is the Lord.(Exodus 12:12) This is not an Old Testament "concept," and now God is all love. God is love and holy at the same time. He hates sin and loves us completely, all the time.
Without having a clear view of the wrath of God against sin, we can't really fully understand the Cross of Christ. Yes, Jesus was dying in our place for our sins, because He loves us. Also, He was receiving all of the wrath of God against our sins that we deserved. If God did not pour out His wrath against Christ or against us, He would cease to be holy. He can't be blamed for ever compromising with sin or not punishing sin in the appropriate ways. That is what holy means. To be holy is to be separated from sins, and to be set apart to do the righteous things all the time. That is true for God and for us.
Please, do not fall into the trap of Satan when he tries to tell you that God will overlook a sin.(Romans 1:18) Don't listen to His lies and half-truths. Read what the Bible says. God is a just and holy God. He knows that sin brings destruction and death. He hates sin with all of His being. Since He loves us, He wants us to be free from sin, not just forgiven for our sins. When we are saved we are saved "from" our sins, and His plan is for us to grow in holiness, so that we sin less and less, and we do the right things more and more. Anything less than that is an affront to a Holy God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 14-16.
