The Promise of Deliverance from Bondage
There are many promises in the Bible, and all of them are very significant for our lives. If we live by the promises, we will truly experience the blessings of God. Galatians 5:16 is God's promise for being delivered from any type of bondage. Read it, and let the truth sink in for a minute.
Satan builds strongholds in our lives by using the desires or lusts of the flesh, our human nature, to draw us away from the Lord and to draw us to do his will instead. He is very smart, and he knows what areas to exploit from watching us. If we fight him ourselves, we will fail. We will live by the flesh, and we will end up having spiritual strongholds that are things he uses to keep us in bondage to the flesh. When we get to that point, we will not do God's will.
The good news is that we never have to fail, to follow the flesh, or to be in bondage. This promise shows that freedom is as simple as living or walking in the Spirit all the time. I am not going to explain it in detail here, but I want to point out the essentials. Once you come to know Christ, the Holy Spirit indwells you. Then, you have the freedom from sin, so that you can choose to listen to the Spirit and do God's will in God's way. God will not force you. However, as you feed on the Word of God, pray, and keep your sins confessed, the Spirit will reveal God's will clearly. If you choose to follow, He will give you the power to do it. Then, you grow stronger and stronger, so that you do not fulfill the lust of the flesh ever. This is an iron clad promise, and I have experienced it myself over the last 40 years.
Therefore, besides being saved by knowing Jesus as Lord of your life, there is nothing that is more important than walking in the Spirit. It must be the priority for every Christian, if we hope to become like Jesus and live the blessings of God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ephesians 3-6.
