A Fulfilled Prophecy
As I finished reading Zechariah, I was reminded again about all of the very specific prophesies that spell out how Jesus will return to this earth. I am sure some people have a hard time believing them, but they shouldn't. The reason we can believe the prophesies in the Bible is that all of them have come true 100% of the time. Malachi gives us a great example in Malachi 1:11. He told us something that was very unlikely to happen, but it has come true in a marvelous way!
The name of the Lord is great among the ethnic groups of the world, so that there is nowhere on the globe that there are not people worshiping Him in Spirit and in truth. As the sun rises and sets, there are hundreds and thousands of people praying to Him in every area of the world, as represented by the burning of incense, and there is the pure offering of true worship of Jesus Christ. When Malachi penned this prophecy, there was no prospect of this happening. Jesus had not come to earth. The Jewish people believed in God and a few of them we being faithful, but many were rebelling against Him. It would have been a highly unusual thing to find a Gentile who worshiped God in truth in his day. However, God fulfilled the prophecy he gave to Malachi completely.
Now, we can see why we should look at the prophesies of Zechariah and believe them. One day we will see Jesus descend in bodily form upon the Mount of Olives. The mountain will split apart with a great earthquake to further announce His coming. He will set up His throne in Jerusalem, and the Gentiles will stream up to worship Him. Any country that doesn't worship Him during the Millennium will receive no rainfall as a reminder of what they need to do. Does that sound hard to believe? If so, look at all of the hundreds of prophesies that have already come true and begin to trust that God can and will honor His Word again and bring it to pass.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Malachi 2-4.
