Brazen Unbelief
I see brazen unbelief more often now than ever before in my lifetime. I am not talking about people who do not know about the Lord and His Word. I am referring to many people who were raised in church. They have read the Bible and even memorized verses. However, they have come to say no to God. They make it plain that they are not going to listen to Him or to His Word.(Jeremiah 44:16) It is hard to understand why this happens, but I believe Jeremiah gives us some insights into this brazen unbelief.
The people of Israel who fled to Egypt because they feared the king of Babylon were quick to begin worshiping the queen of heaven and the other false gods. They revealed their reasoning in rejecting God. It had to do with their belly. They had plenty to eat in Egypt as slaves, so they thought they could return to their previous idolatry and receive the same physical benefits. They were out for pleasure. Satan always traps people with pleasure. He knows how to show people a good time and to fulfil their appetites. Then, they are ready to come back for more, no matter what they have to do. Many times this is why people decide to reject God. They run to pleasure when God leads them to righteousness.
Examine your life, and see if this is what you are doing. It is not God's way. You may not have told God outwardly that you were not going to listen to Him like the Israelites, but that is just what you decided to do. You turned off God, so you could pursue pleasure. Now, you are worshiping the idols that appeal to your body or your senses. It is the broad road that leads to destruction. Turn to the One, True and Living God who can give you an eternal abundant life that is so much better than earthly pleasures.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 47-49.
