Tumbleweeds

In Texas I got to see real tumbleweeds. They are a product of very dry weather and consistently strong wind. A bush just dries up, the wind breaks it off, and it rolls away driven by the wind. This is one of the descriptions Isaiah gives for the nations when God rebukes them and blows them away.(Isaiah 17:13)

The nations of the world go through cycles. God allows them to rise in power, but if they do not follow Him, eventually, He destroys them. One day they are like a rushing stream. The next day their water is cut off, and they become a puddle. One day they have great weight and importance. The next day they are like chaff or dust that is easily blown away. History is full of accounts of this process, as is the Bible.

Isaiah addressed Syria in chapter 17, but he could have been speaking to the United States. If we don't listen to God and turn from our idols, we will dry up and blow away like a tumbleweed. We will be gone, and people will say, Do you remember when God was blessing the USA and giving them so much wealth and power? What happened to them?" Let's not let that happen. Let's pray and turn this nation back to the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 18-20.
