Mad, Sad, or Glad
Wasn't there a Dr. Seuss book about being mad, sad, and glad? I seem to remember one from years ago. These words came to my mind this morning as the Lord laid a verse on my heart.(Psalm 122:1) It seems that they describe the reaction of people when they think about going to church. They are either mad, sad, or glad. Which one describes you today?
Getting yourself and the kids ready to go to church just makes some people mad. It is too much trouble, so they don't take the time and effort to get up and go. If they do try, something comes up, and it causes them to get mad at each other. This is not what God wants for us.
Also, some people get sad. They think about their sins, and their problems. Instead of being glad to go worship God, they are upset with Him or others, so they just stay home and try to do something to make them feel better. However, when a person skips church, it doesn't ever make things better, does it?
The will of God is for us to go gladly to worship Him with other believers. We should be glad to study His Word. It should be a breath of fresh air as we start a new week. If we do not feel glad, we need to go to the Lord and find out what the problem is. How could going to God's house be a bad thing? Why would He design it to make us mad or sad? He doesn't do that, of course. We have the wrong focus if that is what is happening to us.
I pray that you are glad when they say to you, "Let's go to the house of the Lord."
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 124-126.
