One Reason Our Enemies Win
Life is a series of challenges. The challenges come from various sources. Some of them come from within us, and others attack us from outside. At times we have enemies who attack us. Jesus wants to give us the victory over our enemies, like David won over the giant, Goliath. Therefore, when we are defeated by our enemies, we need to find the reason for our failure to overcome them.
Joshua found one prominent reason for defeat when he sent his warriors against the small town of Ai. God did not support them, and 36 soldiers were killed, all because of one thing. There was an accursed thing in the camp of Israel.(Joshua 7:13) A man named Achan had taken spoil from Jericho that God had commanded them not to take. The presence of those accursed things in the camp caused the army to be defeated by their enemies.
I believe it is a similar situation with us today. If we have things in our lives that are offensive to God, He will not give us victory over our enemies. It is very important for us to take God's hatred of sin seriously. When He tells us to be holy, He means it. If we allow an unholy thing into our lives, not only does He not bless us, but He even fights against us. Fortunately, this is a simple problem to solve. We only have to pray and ask God to show us what needs to be taken away from our lives, and put it away. Then, He can and will begin to give us victory.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 10-12
