God's Word Is Not A Futile Thing
Futile is a strong word. It means that something is worthless, that it will not succeed, or that it will not help accomplish a goal. God's Word is not futile. In fact, it is the opposite. It is vital. It is invaluable, and it does lead us to the right kind of success in life.
Anyone can realize the existence of God and some of the attributes of God by looking at nature and all of the things God created. However, we cannot know the path to God apart from the special revelation that is contained in His Word. Man has created many religions, but there is only one way to know God. Jesus Christ is God who became flesh to dwell among us, live a sinless life, and die for our sins on the cross. He rose again, and He will redeem anyone who turns from their own ways to trust Him as Lord and Savior of their lives. This salvation is not by works, but by grace through faith.(Ephesians 2:8-9)
Then, once we come to know Him, we need the Word of God like Israel did to guide us in life, to be our GPS for the narrow road to heaven. Yes, now we have the Holy Spirit to enlighten us and empower us, but many times He works by illuminating God's Word for us. If we do not know God's Word, it is very difficult for us to know how to live in righteousness before God and man.
Therefore, the Word of God is not optional or extra. It gives us the Good News of how to be saved from our sins, and it gives us the map of how to live after our salvation. It is not futile, because God promises to bless us as we read it and obey it.(Deuteronomy 32:47) It should be a part of our lives every day, as we read it and live it out. Then, we have the success God has planned for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 1-3.
