Satisfying Rest

People try to rest in many different ways. I am sure I don't have to enumerate them. However, whether it is watching TV, listening to music, playing video or computer games, or physical recreation or sports, none of them can compare to the best source of rest.

Matthew 11:28-30 tells us the secret to satisfying rest. Jesus, Himself, called everyone who labored and was heavy laden to come to Him for rest. The promise still holds true today. He is the source of complete and satisfying rest. Jesus does not just give us rest for our bodies, but for our souls as well. He shows us how to be refreshed in our minds, our wills, and our emotions, so that we see the stress melt away. Then, we can continue in that renewed state of body and soul, if we take His yoke. We must do what He leads us to do, instead of overwhelming ourselves with additional activities and responsibilities that drain our energy very quickly. When we do His will, He actually empowers us, so that we are energized, not depleted. John 4 is a good example of that when Jesus told His disciples that He had food that they did not know about. His food was to do the will of His Father.

I hope we all will take Jesus up on His call for us to come to Him for rest. Life is too hurried and stressful to live any other way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 15-18.
