"... If I Perish, I Perish"
The life of a believer is seldom easy. There is always joy for the journey, as we walk holding our Lord's hand, but He walks us through many difficulties to strengthen our faith and our perseverance.(James 1:2-4)
In the process of doing His will, we have to be faithful no matter what others say or do. That was the position in which Esther found herself. She was the only one who had even a little opportunity to see the king and to change the terrible decree to annihilate all of the Jews in his kingdom. It was against the law for her to enter his presence without his personal request for her to come. Therefore, he could decide to kill her. She had to take that chance. Her welfare was not as important as being used by God to accomplish the work of His kingdom. She was willing to die, if necessary, trying to do His will. She fasted and sought his favor. Then, she went to the king.
Most of our personal situations are not so drastic, but the same principle applies. We can't do what people want. We can't let their opinion sway us from doing the right thing. We must be faithful to the Lord, even if that means making someone upset. Paul said that if he were a people pleaser, he would not be pleasing God. Our whole aim must be to please the Lord and to do what He wants us to do, no matter what the reaction of people will be.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 5-7.
