Abiding in Christ
For the past several weeks I have been answering questions posed by our middle school students during our weekly chapel sessions. It has been great to see their questions, and to see how they really want to know the truth, even though they don't want to let on like they like it too much. It's just not "cool" to act very spiritual, you know.
Today, I spoke on the topic of Abiding in Christ, at the request of one of our young men. He went to camp last summer, and the speaker gave them a way to remember the meaning of abiding. Here it is: Peter Pan, Cotton Candy, Double Dipped, M&M's. That sounds real spiritual, doesn't it? Let me explain.
Peter Pan reminds us to "practice His presence." In other words, we must enter His Presence in the morning and stay near to Him all day long.
Cotton Candy means we must be constantly connected to Him in prayer.
Double Dipped is for being desperately dependent on Christ.
M&M's reminds us that all of this must be moment by moment.
That is pretty good, isn't it? I hope it helps them remember what God's Word tells us in John 15:1-8, because without Him we can do nothing, but by abiding we can bear much fruit for His glory.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 16-19.
March 11 – Ephesians 2:10
Tell God that you do not want to do what you want to do each day, but you want Him to show you what He has prepared for you to do today. He knows just what you can and should do, because He made you and saved you. He planned out your life before you were saved, but He does not force you to do His will.
