The Work of the Holy Spirit
How can we tell if the Spirit is working in the life of a person? The answer is pretty clear from the Bible. It is not that they are seeing all kinds of miracles all of the time. It is something much more important than seeing miracles.
The Holy Spirit convicts everyone of sin, righteousness, and judgment.(John 16:8-11) He is constantly showing people their sins, the things they do right, and the fact that they will be judged in the end. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth.(John16:13) Most people have a hard time accepting the whole truth, but the Spirit is busy showing it to all people. Finally, the Spirit glorifies Jesus, not Himself.(John 16:14) He draws people to see Jesus.
Therefore, when we talk with people who are becoming aware of their sin or their need to do the right thing, because God is watching, the Spirit is at work in their lives. When people around us are realizing the truth of God's Word, the Spirit is at work in them. When people are beginning to see Jesus is really the Lord, it is the work of the Holy Spirit. In each case we, as believers, should jump in and join God in His work to reinforce what the Spirit is saying to them with our own testimonies, and examples of how we came to know those same truths.
This is the reason we need to pray for the Holy Spirit to have His way in the lives of those around us and to make us aware of His workings. Then, we can see the power of God unleashed, and we can be a part of His work.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 5-7 and Nahum 1.
