Pouting
Pouting is not a profitable practice. It is a terrible character trait, too. However, Jonah was a major pouter. Read the whole book. It will not take you very long at all. Then, you will see how disoriented believers can become to God's will. Jonah's reaction to God's grace for the people of Nineveh was to pout. It is hard to believe but true.
Jonah 4:2 was my verse for today. It is a sad confession by Jonah. He ran away from God, because he was afraid the pagans would repent and God would relent from destroying them. Jonah wanted them to be killed, instead of them being saved. That is a horrible testimony for any believer. We are to love those who don't know the Lord and lead them to Him. We are not to wish for their death.
Then, when it was all over Jonah wanted to die because the sun was hot, and the plant that was shading him died. He cared more for a plant than for people. He was more concerned with his own comfort than with the well being of a whole city. He was a world class pouter, because he did not get his way.
We need to learn from the negative example of Jonah. We need to reject prejudice of any kind. We must reject hate and embrace love, even for our enemies. Then, we must put away pouting. It is not about us; it is about Him and His will.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 2-4.
